Sightseeing run

Runs are generally a lot more fun when you are running somewhere with a pretty view. So go for a sightseeing run in your new destination so you can check out some different areas and also get a workout in. You can find spots you’d like to return to later or simply check off neighborhoods and landmarks that you wanted to see. Not all destinations are set up for runners, however, so be sure to check this out before your travels as well as recommended running trails.

Walk whenever you can

One of the best ways to get to know a new destination is by foot. This way you can venture off to any side streets you want, avoid time constrictions, and not be limited by transport routes. Walking is also a great way to get movement in, and many find that for the types of trips where they are consistently exploring, they actually walk more on holiday than they do while in their daily routines.

Be careful of what you eat

Experiencing local foods is an essential part when it comes to traveling in order to get to know the local culture. While you want to experience it, it doesn’t mean you have to overindulge or eat foods that you know don’t make you feel great.

Drink a lot of water

Hydration is crucial for your health, and you don’t want to let your water intake slide while traveling. Especially if you travel via airplane, you want to actually boost your intake. Bring along a reusable water bottle to make it easier on you! Many places of accommodation have a fill station that you can use.

Keep your snacks healthy

Especially if you are a snacker, it is all too easy to go for an unhealthy snack when you get hungry on a trip. So think ahead, bring some of your favorite snacks from home, and stop by a grocery store upon arrival to your destination so you can keep your snack stash full and healthy. If you are in a pinch while out, swing by a market or a grocery store and pick up some fresh fruit or vegetable and maybe add in a dip such as hummus or almond butter for a protein boost.

It is not hard at all to stay in shape while traveling, especially if you apply a few pieces of advice. In the end, the most important thing is that you relax, have fun and enjoy your trip. Plus, if you stress about staying in shape, rather than naturally incorporating it into your travels, the increased stress hormones you’ll get from this will only work against you!
